A matter of statistic
The wind was strong again this morning with guts around 14 m/s and a few nets stayed closed.
From the numbers underneath one could say that it was another low day and that Claus jannig and I preferred to watch football instead of ringing... However, if you compare it to yesterday, then it is another story! Compared to yesterday we made an increase of 100% of new birds! Two red backed shrikes, beautifull males, allowed us to reach that. As for the retraps, we can say that we capture 33% more birds than yesterday as well. And last but not least, we have more than doubled our number of different species trapped. So in the end, could we really say that it was a lazy day? :)
Tomorrow the wind should not be as strong but still coming from the same direction then changing through the day. We shall see!
Hmm!

Summer goes on
The weather being as nice as the previous days and the wind blowing west in the morning, it is not surprising that there were few birsd in the nets!
6 new birds were ringed among which a beautifull white wagtail ( hvid visptjert) female. There were also only two retraps this morning. Apparently the birds know pretty well the nets except this lesser white throat ringed last year that I still catch every now and then.
There will be Klaus Yannig and Ninna at the house this week end, so let's hope we'll get something good.
Nice diversity
Another summerday! It was a bit cloudy at some point but it was such a nice and warm weather throughout the day.
There were still few birds around this morning, but I ended up with 11 species which is not too bad compare to the previous days!
The highlight of the day for me was an European Nuthatch (spætmesje) from the northern subspecies: Sitta europea europea.
Compare to the ones from central Europe which have a yellowih-buff belly, these ones have a whiter belly which contrast even more with the rufous undertail covers and the flanks.
In the end, I caught 9 new birds and 8 retraps. We can call it a draw.
Quiet and sunny
The weather is still really warm and sunny, very enjoyable for leisure but unfortunately not very good for birds!
Although there were apparently a few migrants in the garden this early morning with 4 birds in the first round, mostly icterine warblers, it dropped drastically from round number 2 onwards and the number is comparable with the number of yesterday.
At 8, two gorgeous male of redstarts got trapped, maybe chasing each other and I could't resist to share you a picture of this common but colorfull bird.
Wind changed again this afternoon but probably not in the right direction to get some new birds :(
First chick
Today, the sky was cloudy when I woke up but it slowly turned into this bright summerly day. The birds were indeed more active this morning and I got a few probably migrating birds. With the heat, it decreased throughout the morning and I was surprised to still get that many unringed reproducing lesser whitethroats (gærdesanger) in the garden.
The reed and marsh warblers were a good training for me and I was really happy to get a reed warbler to compare them. In summer, I ring about 2000 of reed´s so that felt funny to be happy to get two!
I also got my first new born chick of the season after a couple of hour ringing. It was a really cute Tree sparrow with feathers still growing. It wouldn't behave for the picture and is even pouring its tongue out!
All in all, i was a really nice day, I got a few more birds than the previous day and I'm still waiting for a more rare birds ;)
Smells like summer
Today morning, the weather was amazingly good zith almost no wind and full sun. It even got up to 20 degrees around 10.
Expectations were high this morning because of the wind changed. But in fact, there was almost no wind at all! However, there were more non-breeding birds in the nets and less retraps than the previous days, even though the number of captures stood low.
Tomorrow the wind is Norh West and is supposed to be stronger and a tiny bit of rain could happen: so let's keep our finger crossed for some good birds in the nets tomorrow!
Alpesejleren (Alpine Swift) over Gedser Fuglestation søndag lidt efter klokken 12.

Rainy day
Rain didn´t allow to open the nets this morning.
I opened sone nets at 13:45 in the afernoon when the sun showed up. But it was quiet and only 4 new birds were ringed today ( still better than yesterday!)
Only one lesser white throat (gærdesanger) got retrap. It had been ringed last year as an adult bird and had a brood patch today.
