Slow ringing day at GFU
Today it has been a very slow day at the station. Anton was in charge of opening the nets this morning and due to the strong wind he decided not to open all of them. We did the standard morning rounds breaking a record! The day with less birds for the season! But we know we can´t control the weather, so after closing we have used the day in doing some gardening and studying more about birds at home.
Today’s ringing:
Husrødsjert / Black Redstart - 1
Rødstjert / Common Redstart - 1
Gulbug / Icterine Warbler - 2
Gærdesanger / Lesser Whitethroat - 4 (1 recapture)
Tornsanger / Common Whitethroat - 1 (1 recapture)
Total: 9 (2 recaptures)
The highlight of the day has been a juvenile Black Stork that flew over the fields in the morning. Anton got a call from Anders, who saw it from the tip, and ran to the fields outside to see it. The first one in Gedser since 2015!! That was really good!

In the afternoon we went to the tip to enjoy some migration, there were Common and Sandwich tern flying South as well as many Swifts.
Now is dinner time for Anton and me with blackberry cake (1st of the season) for dessert! Ramón is opening nets tomorrow so he is already getting some rest in bed.
Life is good at GFU and we are happy to be here!
Godnat!
