A quiet but teachable day!
Ringing:
Today was my first day back at the station after my last stay earlier this month where Susanne introduced me to the art of picking birds from the nets calmly, carefully and effectively, as well as the ringing procedure. For this first morning we had what an experienced ringer might call a calm morning. For me however, it was an excellent chance to be able to take it slow with the birds and really soak up all the knowledge Søren has to offer.
With an average of 3-4 birds per round, I had the opportunity to try my hand again at picking robins and dunnocks from the nets, accompanied by Søren's careful eye. At the third round, the oh so exciting time to try the ringing procedure for myself came! We had a very calm and cooperative robin and it was absolutely incredible for me to be able to take the biometrics and ring this beautiful bird. My first! In the excitment of the process we forgot to grab a picture, but luckily, this same bird was later on recaptured! I could then catch a nice picture of it with Søren's help. A lovely coincidence I thought.
This day has been nothing less than unforgettable and hopefully marks the begining of a lot of ringing opportunities for me! I am so looking forward to the next days I get to spend here and hope to learn a lot more.
