It was a one of a kind day, for a one of a kind man. Birthday celebrations for Anton commenced at 4:30pm with a candle lit song from Josh. A traditional Danish birthday awakening with boller and not so traditional KaKao milk set the morning off to a great start. With the rising sun and north-easterly winds a scattering of Nattergal and the usual Gærdesangers, Tornsangers and Havesangers hit the nets, giving us hope that today would produce the Høgesanger and Skovsanger goods that a few years previous had bought.

With these hopes at the for-front of our mind the nets were kept open throughout the day during the blackberry festival. A Spætmejse made an appearance giving the team a beautiful individual to show the crowds as a demonstration of the scientific research conducted here.

The afternoon heat did not stop the berry pickers and bowls were filled continuously until mid-afternoon. A great harvest to experience and share with our fellow passerine friends. Purple stained hands reflecting the feathered fronts of the Gærdesangers.

Afternoon bird watching produced a Fiskeørn, Blå Kærhøg, 6 Rørhøg, 3 Tårnfalk and 4 Spurvehøg from a position at the lighthouse. Ringing into the evening was enjoyed along with a BBQ to celebrate the evening of Anton’s birthday.
